CCP is a registered charity (No.1043143) that exists to prevent the causes and reverse the effects of homelessness, family breakdown and exclusion. Based in Cheltenham, we have 130 staff backed up by a team of 160 volunteers, and deliver services and projects in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Wiltshire, Bristol and Dorset.

The charity was originally founded in 1989 by a local businessman in response to the growing number of homeless young people in Cheltenham. Recognising that people as young as 16 were sleeping rough around the town after having been thrown out of their family home, he purchased a building and opened a 10 bed hostel.

Today, some 30 years later, the original hostel is still managed by CCP as part of our Supported Accommodation service, offering integrated accommodation and training to young people who are working to achieve sustainable independent living.

We deliver a comprehensive range of interlocking services including:

  • Supported Accommodation and life-skills training for around 200 homeless young people per year aged 16 to 25 who are working to achieve independent living.
  • Independent Living Services offering accommodation and intensive support for 16-17 year old Looked-After Children preparing to leave local authority care.
  • Parenting and Family Support services, including intensive support to prevent children entering the care system. We support families with issues relating to physical and mental health, disability, family breakdown, social exclusion, school exclusion, chaotic lifestyles, drug and alcohol abuse, anti-social behaviour, domestic violence and poor parenting skills.
  • Cheltenham 1st Stop drop-in centre, offering information, advice and guidance to around 6000 people per year.
  • CCP FoodShare – an emergency foodbank for people living on the edge of poverty.
  • Advice & Financial Inclusion services, including debt, benefits, housing and welfare advice. The service provided advice to around 700 people per year and typically secures over £450,000 for clients, including debt written off, monies gained from charitable grants and benefits gained.
  • Homelessness Prevention Services, including floating and drop-in support for adults at risk of homelessness, support for the No Second Night Out protocol, support for rough sleepers and Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP), and supported accommodation for homeless adults.
  • Advocacy services for Children and Young People and Child Protection Family Advocacy.
  • Community Wellbeing Service: a Social Prescribing service to help vulnerable adults to access social and community support and activities where these are more appropriate than GP and NHS services
  • Mentoring, support and outreach youth work for young people
  • Appropriate Adult services to monitor the rights and welfare of juveniles and vulnerable adults held in police custody suites in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.
  • Volunteering Gloucestershire – the county’s general volunteering service
  • Cheltenham Challenge – an annual festival of running to raise funds for CCP and other charities, featuring 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon races.
  • Hamper Scamper Christmas giving scheme: relying on the generosity of businesses, schools, churches and members of the public, in 2018 Hamper Scamper generated over 2,000 gifts for disadvantaged children and young people, and 1,715 food hampers for disadvantaged families and adults, worth over £82,000.
